DUOS Joins NewCinema/Features+ Ahead of European Online Premiere at Amsterdam Independent Film Festival
Mexican filmmaker Frank Rodríguez's new feature DUOS is coming to Whush as part of the NewCinema/Features+ showcase, as the film begins its international festival journey.
The 86-minute feature has also been selected for the Amsterdam Independent Film Festival, where it will have its European online premiere. The selection was made possible through NewCinema's festival system, giving DUOS an important early festival platform as it begins seeking further international selections.
For a film completed in 2026, the two developments mark an important stage in its public life: its arrival on NewCinema and its first European online festival premiere.

A Film About Different Ways of Loving
Written and directed by Rodríguez, DUOS follows Marah, a young woman trying to understand a complicated relationship with her father while pursuing a scholarship to study theatre in New York.
Rodríguez describes DUOS as “a film about different ways of loving.”
The film uses Marah's relationship to examine how ideas about love, morality and acceptable relationships are shaped by social and religious beliefs. In his director's statement, Rodríguez describes the film as an exploration of human hypocrisy and the ways our beliefs about relationships can change over time.
Rather than presenting those questions as straightforward moral conclusions, Rodríguez wants the film to encourage audiences to consider their own definitions of what is right and wrong.
Frank Rodríguez's Latest Feature
DUOS continues Rodríguez's work both in front of and behind the camera.
An actor with more than 40 feature films to his credit, Rodríguez has also worked as a screenwriter on films including Carretera 15, Retrato Familiar and Todo. His directing credits include Lección Zaragoza, Todo and DUOS, with Tiempos Grises in production.
Rodríguez is also co-director of the Gran Fiesta de Cine Mexicano film festival.
For DUOS, he is joined by producer Israel Lopez, with Vania García, Rodrigo Murray and Enoc Leaño among the principal cast.
From NewCinema to Amsterdam
The Amsterdam selection is an important early step for DUOS as the film begins its festival journey.
Through NewCinema's festival system, the feature was made available for consideration by the Amsterdam Independent Film Festival and has now been selected for the programme, where it will receive its European online premiere.
The selection demonstrates the connection between the two sides of NewCinema: films can reach audiences through the curated showcases on Whush while also being put forward for consideration by participating film festivals.
For DUOS, Amsterdam is the first confirmed selection in what could become a wider festival run.
Coming to NewCinema/Features+
DUOS will stream for audiences in Europe as part of NewCinema/Features+, introducing Rodríguez's latest feature as its festival journey gets underway.
Its arrival on NewCinema alongside its selection for a European online premiere at the Amsterdam Independent Film Festival marks the beginning of a new international chapter for the film.
DUOS (Mexico, 2026), written and directed by Frank Rodríguez and produced by Israel Lopez, runs 86 minutes in Spanish with English subtitles. The film is coming to Whush as part of NewCinema/Features+ and will have its European online premiere at the Amsterdam Independent Film Festival.
